I have always loved the arts my whole life! (And it is getting to be quite a long life at that.) I think it is the unlimited availability of colors and textures! I really enjoy photography, painting and cardmaking, but my all time favorite is creating forms of art that you wear. Tah-Dah! Jewelry! I am additcted to the facination of creating wonderful piece of art you wear! Take a look at my Gallery at http://imageevent.com/mimia/jewelrygallery?z=2&l=0&c=4&n=1&m=24&w=4&x=0&p=1 and let me know what you think.
It is my goal to create beautiful pieces of "art" for women to wear around their neck, on their wrist, ankle and in their earlobes. I take pride in my "creations" and use quality materials in each piece.
I want you to be happy with your purchases from Creations By Michol so I am offerring a 100% guarantee for exchange or refund, minus shipping charges. The items must be returned in the same condition it was shipped within 30 days of my shipment date - please include the original receipt with the merchandise when it is returned.
At Creations By Michol I primarily use .925 Sterling Silver and some 14/20 kt Gold Filled metals. I ocassionaly use some Vermeil, but only if it has a nice quality look to it and I have found that I like using Copper in my more primative pieces. I do work with some Brass, but only for inexpensive pieces or test projects.
The beads that I use are wonderful Lampwork Art Beads, Swarovski Austrian Crystals, some Czech Beads, Shells, Pearls, nice looking Glass Beads and I love working with a variety of Gemstones. (Jasper is my favorite as there are so many varieties - and also the name of my little doggie!).
I will ocassionally find a wonderful rare Vintage Bead that will make a piece very unique. Once in a while I will use a quality Pewter Charm that might be "so cute you can't resist" type.
I will always try to let the buyer know what the primary materials are in each piece. There is an exception - that is when I purchase a bead from a bead shop or show and they don't even know what the piece is! That does happen!
I am Michol “Micky” Atwater a Jewelry Artist of fine hand-crafted jewelry residing in Stephentown, New York and Englewood, Florida. I grew up in Stephentown and married my high school sweetheart, Kirk. We have two wonderful children and four terrific grandchildren. Our daughter and her family live in New York and our son and his family live in Florida, so we have taken up residence in both states so we can spend more time with our families.
While our children were growing up, I was involved in the Arts. I took classes in various forms of art from ceramics, painting, writing, photography, card making and jewelry. Then there were the many crafts that I taught myself such as crocheting (ask my kids about those funny sweaters), sewing, macramé, and embroidery. I always had to keep my hands busy and my eye with color and texture. I was a freelance photo journalist and writer for local newspapers in New York during those early years. My days of photography were also busy doing weddings, wild life and ski photos. My ski photos were on display in the old lodge at Jiminy Peak for several years.
In February 2005 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. A serious diagnose of any illness or disease makes you really think and reassess your life. I had a career in business for over 20 years and realized I needed to do something different, but what? “Creations By Michol” was born in the Spring of 2005 when I received a Swarovski Crystal Breast Cancer Awareness Bracelet from a couple of my friends. The sparkle, the beauty of the bracelet and the thoughtfulness of my friends made me realize that others may appreciate such a gift of hope, too. I started designing Awareness Bracelets for gifts for others who too were diagnosed with other types of cancer at that time. It was therapeutic for me and it gave me a feeling of giving “hope” to others.
At the time I had no idea where this journey would be taking me. I now sell jewelry in specialty shops, craft fairs, home parties and online. Now I can’t seem to stop making jewelry! I am addicted to color, texture, and learning new ways of making a piece of jewelry. I love knowing that my pieces bring pleasure and happiness to others.
During the winter months I work on continuing developing my craft by taking jewelry classes in Charlotte and Sarasota Counties in Florida. This region is bountiful of many talented artists who are willing to share their craft. I have learned new techniques in Wire Wrapping, Silver Smithing, Beading and Cold Connections over the past few years. I use some of these new techniques in new pieces each year.
Enjoy!
